Description:
A mustached Civil War soldier stands at rest with left foot forward. The soldier holds the upper end of his rifle with both hands together, proper left hand above proper right hand. The butt of the rifle is grounded in front and slightly to the proper right of his proper right foot. The soldier is wearing a kepi, a greatcoat buttoned at the neck, and a cape that is thrown back over his proper right shoulder exposing nearly all of his arm. The cape drapes to cover nearly all of his proper left arm. At his belt hangs a bayonet on the proper left side, a cartridge pouch on the proper left rear and a small pouch in the front. The soldier's belt buckle and cartridge pouch are marked with "US" in bas-relief. The sculpture is mounted on a four-tiered base with a tapered top tier and rough-hewn sides.
