    Remarks:
IAS files contain related articles from Ruff, Ann, "Amazing Texas Monuments and Museums," Houston: Lone Star Books, pg. 51; and Henderson Daily News (Henderson, TX), Oct. 8, 1963; which discuss the history of the oil industry in Texas and the dedication ceremony for this monument. The monument was designed to mark the spot where oil was first discovered in Rusk County. IAS files contain transcription of text on nearby Official Texas Historical Subject Marker, which gives the history of oil drilling in this area. Oil was struck in 1930 and, in the first 30 years, this field produced more than 3 1/2 billion barrels of oil. The monument includes a time capsule to be open in 2056.
