    Description: 
    Two electroliers, or street lamps, flank the entrance to a building. They have the same design except the one depicts children studying; the other, children relaxing after play. Both electroliers are topped by a 20 inch-high, hexagonal lamp, encircled by smaller dome-shaped lights. Below each light is an owl, holding a garland of flowers in its beak. The children appear at the base of the shaft, with lion's heads below them. On the right lamp, nine children are seen studying, dressed in school clothes. They are seen reading, writing, counting, examining a globe and holding a violin. On the left lamp, the children holding various toys including: a doll, a football, a hoop, a small boat, a teddy bear, a baseball bat and glove, a tennis racket and ball, and roller skates. Both lamps have a brown patina.

    Remarks: 
    The artist reportedly used his nieces and nephews as models. The sculptures were restored around 1983 by the Washington University Technical Association (St. Louis, Missouri). They were glass-peened and re-patinated. A laquer may have been applied.
