Inscription:  unsigned Description:  Standing figure of St. Louise and a child. St. Louise is dressed in a religious robe with a drape over her head holding a book in her proper left hand. The girl stands at her side, her hands clasped, looking up at St. Louise. Subject:  Religion -- Saint -- St. Louise Object -- Written Matter -- Book Object Type:  Outdoor Sculpture -- Indiana -- Indianapolis Sculpture Owner:  Administered by St. Vincent Hospital/New Hope Group Home, 8450 Payne Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46268 Located New Hope Center, 7900 Payne Road, Indianapolis, Indiana Provenance:  Formerly located St. Vincent Hospital, North Capital Avenue & Fall Creek, Indianapolis, Indiana until 1989. Remarks:  IAS files contain a copy of an unidentified article about the moving of the statue. The piece was originally located across from the old St. Vincent's Hospital at North Capital Avenue and Fall Creek. The statue marked the Ladies of Charity Office. When the Ladies of Charity disbanded, the statue was put in storage until the summer of 1988, when owner donated statue to Hospital at New Hope Center, 7900 Payne Road. The inscription on a bronze plaque in front of the statue reads: St. Louise de Marillac, patron saint of all social/work was co-founder of the Daughters of Charity/of St. Vincent de Paul in 1633.
