Provenance:
Formerly located St. Mary's Parish, 25 Third Street, Dover, New Hampshire
Remarks:
The sculptures were imported from Italy through Nardini of Boston, and are said to be copies of sculptures at St. Peter's in Rome. The sculptures were originally installed high on the corners of St. Mary's church in Dover. Due to safety concerns they were removed from the church in 1946 and relocated to their present site at St. Mary's cemetery. Additional information, including a manuscript by Robert Whitehouse entitled "Dover History: the Dover Churches" (1982) is available at the Dover Public Library.
