    Description: 
    A full-length standing figure of the Virgin Mary. She wears a hooded robe, with lace at the neck. Her hands are at her sides, palms extended outward. Beneath her proper right foot is a snake eating an apple. The statue rests on a marble plinth, which sits a concrete base, in the center of a circular 4-stepped bricked paving.

    Remarks: 
    IAS files contain related articles from Denver Post (Dec. 15, 1938, pg. 4); and Rocky Mountain News (Denver, CO, Dec. 15, 1938); which discuss the dedication of the sculpture in a devotional grotto on St. Mary's Academy grounds at East 14th Avenue and Pennsylvania Street. The grotto was built by the students in memory of Alice Cook, a student of the class of 1938, who died in 1936. The statue was brought to Denver from Pietra Santa, Italy.
