Formerly located Sandy Hill Park, Carroll Street, Paterson, New Jersey
Remarks:
The memorial was originally sited in Sandy Hill Park, which was later known as Roberto Clemente Park. Attempts were made to obstruct plans for the memorial because it depicted a Roman Catholic clergyman of German descent. Apparently, as a result of the controversy, Stein was represented in full monsignorial robes. At the time of the memorial's dedication, Klansmen burned crosses on Garret mountain.
