    Description: 
    Christopher Columbus, dressed in a coat with puffed sleeves and an embellishment representing fur down the front, stockinged legs, and buckled shoes, stands holding a partially rolled document in his lowered proper right hand. He places his proper left hand upon a globe which rests on a low pedestal. The figure is placed atop a square base on school's balustrade.

    Remarks: 
    Commissioned by a local Knights of Columbus chapter, now disbanded. The marble statue replaces an earlier bronze statue, which disappeared in the late 1970s. The original 10 foot tall bronze statue was dedicated on Nov. 29, 1894. For related reading see: Orange Chronicle, Dec. 1, 1894, pg. 5. and Rev. Mgr.
