Description:
Monument consists of a base, pedestal, and figure. Bas-relief on the front face of the base depicts development from infancy to manhood. Busts of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln appear in the north and south gables. A figure of a soldier on top wears a Union uniform and overcoat. He leans against his rifle, holding the butt in his proper right hand.

Remarks:
Cost of monument was $11,000, commissioned by the Monumental Association. South Green was formerly known as Union Park. IAS files contain a copy of the dedication brochure, a form used to solicit funding and additional artistic and historical background. Registered with the Ames Manufacturing Company of Chicopee, Massachusetts and on the National Register of Historic Places, 1980.
