A Confederate soldier in uniform stands at parade rest, holding the barrel of his rifle with both hands as the butt rests by his proper right foot. He wears a slouch hat and a has a blanket draped over his proper left shoulder and tied at the waist. A canteen and saber rest on his proper left hip and his haversack is at his back waist. The soldier stands a tall, inscribed pedestal, with a relief bust of Robert E. Lee on the front. On the other sides of the pedestal are reliefs of crossed sabers, cannon barrels, and rifles.

Located Carroll County Courthouse, Lawn, Hillsville, Virginia

Erected by the Carroll Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy to the Confederate soldiers of Carroll County who died during the Civil War. The monument was originally in the middle of Main Street, in front of the Courthouse, but was moved in the 1930's when Main Street was widened as part of a Conservation Civilian Corps (CCC) Project.
