    Remarks:
The original casts of the "Sailor" dog and his companion, "Canton," were created by Bartlett and Hayward for the front entrance of their business. According to the SOS survey, both of the Juvenile Court dogs appear to have been cast from the same pattern --"Sailor", although one dog has a slightly different head position which could be attributed to the casting process. The real Sailor and Canton dogs were two Newfoundland dogs that were brought to the Chesapeake Bay area in 1807. Sailor later became the founder of the Eastern Shore strain of the Chesapeake Bay dogs. IAS files contain pages from a Christie's auction catalog, Christie's Summer Garden Sale (June 23, 1992), lot 68, which describe possibly another cast of "Sailor" made by Bartlett and Hayward.
