Standing figure of Fray Antonio Margil. He wears a long robe with a hood and is barefoot. Proper right hand holds a staff. At the base of the figure is a sunken pool.

Remarks:
Fray Antonio Margil was the founder of Nacogdoches in 1716. Figure was installed during the 1976 United States Bicentennial. Nearby plaque reads: Fray Antonio Margil de Jesus/1681-1726/"THE EYES OF FATHER MARGIL"/There was at the time a severe drought in all/areas of East Texas and of such long/duration that not only human beings but all/animals were suffering critically of thirst, [sic]/In this extremity, like Moses of/old, Margil.[sic] with a prayer on his/lips, struck a rock with his cane/commanding that water come forth.
