Remarks:
Late in 1990, Deggingers' Foundry of Topeka, Kansas, was contracted to restore the sculpture. The cross was found to be copper placed over a cast iron frame. The cast iron frame was discarded, a stainless steel frame made, and new copper placed over that frame. A stainless steel shaft was used for mounting. The three statues and the figure of Christ were taken to the bare metal, repaired and the pittings filled. Multiple layers of lacquer restoratives were applied, with each layer being hand sanded. The restoration was completed in 1991. IAS files contain a press release from Sacred Heart Church which includes a chemical analysis of the statue and gives separate dimensions for each figure, the cross, and base.
