    Description: 
    Bas-relief over the entrance to the church depicts a visitation of Christ to Sister Margaret Mary Alacoque in the 17th century. Christ stands in the center of the relief on a cloud. He wears flowing robes and a halo. He points to the Sacred Heart emblem on his chest. Sister Margaret Mary Alacoque kneels to the left. She wears a nun's habit and both her hands are raised in adulation. To the right, a single lighted candle stands on a covered altar. A striped pillar stands between Christ and the altar. A pair of winged angel heads, each with distinct features, flanks Christ.

    Title supplied by Inventory cataloger.
    Commissioned by Monsignor George V. Burns, the first rector of the Sacred Heart Parish. The Church was completed in 1927 and the relief was executed sometime during the Depression by a journeyman carver. IAS files contain an excerpt from the booklet "History of the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish."
