    Description: 
    Atlas kneels on his proper right knee, on bronze disc marked with four cardinal points. In his uplifted, outstretched arms, he originally held an armillary sphere (now missing) overhead. He stands atop a cylindrical pedestal with four bas-reliefs of women in classical dress. The pedestal is set on a hexagonal platform.

    Donated by the Class of 1927 at its Commencement. The pedestal reliefs represent four types of womanhood: the intuitive, thoughtful, philosophical type; the student and lover of books and learning; the physical, joyous, dancing woman; and the serene, spiritual religiose.
