Description:
A plaque featuring a bas-relief bust of Mason Welch Gross. Gross has a moustache and wears a jacket, shirt, and tie. To his right on the plaque are inscriptions. The plaque is set within the shallow recess of a wall adjacent to a curved bench.

Remarks:
Donated by the class of 1968 for its 25th anniversary. Funded by $35,000 in contributions from Rutgers alumni and another $16,500 from eight other graduating classes at the state university. Mason Welch Gross served as president of Rutgers university, 1959-1971, but continued to teach a class every year. IAS files contain related articles from The Sunday Star-Ledger, (Newark, NJ), Oct. 9, 1994, pg. 45.
