    The dog is thought to depict a family pet of Henry C. Bowen (1813-1896), a successful businessman who was born and raised in Woodstock, CT. In 1896, Bowen commissioned architect Joseph Wells to design a Gothic Revival summer house n Woodstock. When completed the house was named Roseland Cottage. Roseland Park was originally part of Bowen's estate in Woodstock. In 1876, the land was dedicated to the people of Woodstock. This sculpture is one of several cast iron pieces on the grounds of Roseland Park.
