    Description: 
    Sculpture honoring Dr. Ronald Erwin McNair, who died in the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger on January 28, 1986. There are two bronze plaques with images of McNair's life and achievements, plus a life-sized bust of McNair mounted on a nine foot pyramidal monument of polished Missouri red granite. Bronze reliefs showcase McNair's various exploits--space education, martial arts, ect. In the red stone are quotations by McNair. The angled sides of the monument lead the eye upwards towards outer space. The monument is situated in the middle of a wide circle of contrasting granite pavement, representing the spaceship's circumference.
