    Remarks:
The sculpture commemorates John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, and portrays him at age thirty-three when he arrived in Georgia in 1736. It was erected by the John Wesley Monument project, led by members of the United Methodist Church of Georgia who commissioned it and funded a major portion of its $60,000 cost through statewide offerings throughout the church from 1966 to 1968. Contributions were also received from members from several Episcopal churches, some of whose leaders played a major part on the monument committee. Historical groups and citizens in the Savannah area also contributed to the funding. The Historical Commission oversaw the project. The sculpture is installed in Reynolds Square which is directly adjacent to where Wesley's home was sited.
