    Remarks: 
    A posthumous portrait of Roger Sherman (1721-1795), mayor of New Haven and a delegate from Connecticut to the Continental Congress. He was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Articles of Confederation and the Articles of Association. Weir copied the portrait from a miniature oil study painted by John Trumbull for his "Declaration of Independence" painting commissioned in 1817 and placed in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol in 1826.
