Description:
Female figure standing holding the fold of the flag around pole with her proper left hand. She holds the tip of the flag close to her chest with her proper right hand. Figure has a square bronze pedestal atop a pink granite base decorated with reliefs of Liberty and Justice on each side of a shield, two inscription plaques and an eagle with wings spread.

Remarks:
The monument was dedicated Oct. 17, 1896 to the 120th Regiment of New York Volunteers by its commander, General George H. Sharpe, reportedly making it the only statue in the country raised by a general to his men. IAS files contain copy of excerpt from Olde Vlster: An Hiftorical (sic) and Genealogical Magazine, Dec. 1905, pg. 366-367 and related material from the Reformed Protestant Dutch Church.
