Remarks:
IAS files contain articles from The Day (New London, CT), Oct. 2, 1979 and Sept. 1979; and an article from The Home News (Montville, CT), Jan. 14, 1987. Associated plaques are located to either side of the fountain affixed to the library wall. The left plaque reads: "In Memory Of/Isser Gruskin/From His Devoted Family." The right plaque reads: "William Ashby McCloy/Sculptor/Cast By/The Mystic Foundry Inc./Eliot And Phyllis Borges/Prop./1978-1979." The Library sculpture uses New London's commercial and literary history as its themes. The water and fish symbolize the city's long prominence as a whaling port, while the open book represents New London's educational tradition. The sculpture was donated by the Gruskin family of New London in honor of the late Isser Gruskin, attorney and prominent city resident.
