    Remarks:
The fountain is one of a pair which was originally placed at the Manistee County Courthouse, at 3rd Street between Maple & Oak Streets, in 1887. The two fountains were installed at the recommendation of the Committee on County Buildings and cost $539.22. The idea of moving one of the fountains to Onekama was noted in minutes of Aug. 10, 1944 and after the courthouse burned in 1950, one fountain was moved to the current site on Main Street and dedicated to all who served in the armed forces. The Main Street fountain is listed on the State Register as Michigan Historic Site no. 1320. IAS files contain a copy of the certificate from the Michigan Historical Commission and a related brochure "The Memorial Fountain," which indicates the pieces of the companion fountain may be at the Mainstee County Historical Museum.
