    Description: 
    An obelisk with an etching of a flying bald eagle on front, flanked by two side panels with six military insignia. On the back of the obelisk is an etching of a soldier's helmet balanced on the butt of a rifle, the barrel of which is stuck in the ground. The sculpture is mounted on a rectangular base, with six flagpoles arranged behind it and one set off to the side.

    Remarks: 
    The memorial cost $8,600 and was funded through private donations. The black granite came from India. The memorial is dedicated to those of Pope County veterans, especially those who died in war. IAS files contain a related undated article from the Pope County Tribune (Minnesota). IAS files also contain a copy of an Aug. 2, 1994 bid request for the walkway around the memorial.
