(Bronze plaque on side of base, raised lettering:) LET HIS EXAMPLE TELL/THE BREWERS OF THIS/COUNTRY TO MAINTAIN/GOOD-FELLOWSHIP TO/PRESERVE THEIR ASSOCIATION/AND/TO DEFEND THEIR RIGHTS (Bronze plaque on rear of base:) The City of Reading/commemorates the public/and private virtues of an honored citizen/by the grant of this location,/erected AD MDCCCXXXV/the year of the 25th convention of the U.S.Brewers Association. (Bronze plaque on other side of base:) His zeal sprung/from his firm conviction/that in striving to advance/the brewing trade./he was working for/the cause of national temperance signed Founder's mark appears.

    A full-length cast bronze portrait of Frederick Lauer. He stands wearing a frock coat, vest, and bow tie, holding a scrolled paper in his proper left hand. His proper right hand is placed on his rear hip. The sculpture is mounted on a square, multitiered base within an edged planter setting.

    Remarks: 
    Frederick Lauer ran a brewery in Reading, Pennsylvania and was the first president of the United States Brewers' Association. The monument was erected by the Association to commemorate him.
