Description:
There are six un-assembled jigsaw puzzle pieces spelling out the word Democracy. The letters of DEMOCRACY are incised on one side only of the stone. The 6th puzzle piece, with the letter "y," sits atop the 5th piece.

Remarks:
IAS files contain an undated article from the Manchester Journal (Manchester, VT), discussing the commissioning of the piece. The sculpture was commissioned by Raymond Pecor of the Lake Champlain Transportation Company. Herrick designed the work; the Rouleau Granite Company did the actual carving. The piece was to scheduled to be installed Dec. 17, 1900.
