    Description: 
    A large horizontal oval mural, that tells the story of communication by cable, radio-telephone, and satellite. Bottom layer composed of blue and red tile to represent the ocean. Major continents appear on the map, though not in their usual places. Numbers and telephone parts such as ringers, relays, coin box chutes and capacitors are placed throughout the piece. A nude male figure holds underseas cables in his proper left hand which connect to each continent. In his proper right hand he holds a replica of the first sending antenna to dispatch a spoken message.

    Received award from American Institute of Architects for design of the mosaic in 1962. IAS files contain an inventory sheet from the Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Los Angeles, a publication from Pacific Bell dated June 20, 1972, and related information from a publication entitled "Pictoral California and the Pacific."
