The child's proper left leg is bent at the knee and tucked under his proper right leg which is straight. Atop the monument is an eagle in flight. Inscription on nearby marker reads: A memorial to children/unveiled/September 17 A.D. 1932/Plant A Rose Association/Mrs. Carr B. McClenney, mother/Parent Teachers Assoc./Mrs. H. E. Thurman, Pres./Civil League/Mrs. F. D. Brennan, Pres./Chamber of Commerce/Col. Joseph C. Stehlin, Pres. IAS files contain a related article from Florida Times-Union (Jacksonville, FL), Sept. 20, 1992, pg. B-2, which gives the history of the sculpture. IAS files also contain a brochure from the Beaches Area Historical Society which describes the original dedication ceremony and the memorial's recent restoration. The memorial was erected as a result of the March 1, 1932, kidnaping of 20-month-old Charles Augustus Lindbergh Jr., the son of Charles and Anne Lindbergh. The memorial was erected to Charles A. Lindbergh Jr. and to all children.
The memorial was originally erected on the grounds of Jacksonville Beach Elementary School #50. When the school was torn down in the 1970's, the memorial was moved to a construction yard. The memorial was restored and rededicated as part of the Beaches Centennial Celebration at Pablo Historical Park, April 28, 1984. The monument was sculpted by Giovanni Beretta and cast by Giovanni Carletti. Anthony Cianca, eleven-year-old nephew of Carletti, helped with the unmolding of the piece.
