    Remarks:
The school's mascot is a dragon and the sculpture was intended to replace a wall painting of a dragon that was destroyed during a school modernization project. The sculpture cost $9,000 and was funded as part of the county's Works of Art in Public Architecture program. The artist intended a nearby plaque to read: 'Alchemist's Nightmare'/"It was the simplest of recipes...Seven finely pressed bat wings, crushed Wolfbane, two 'Jacks in the Pulpit', one Newt in the eye, or was it 'Eye of Newt'?"/from 'The Alchemist's Nightmare' c 1990 L. Vail.
IAS files contain a copy of the artist's proposal for the sculpture, dated Feb. 14, 1990; a copy of a Feb. 28, 1990 memorandum from the Superintendent of Schools, Montgomery County Public Schools; and an article from The Olney Courier-Gazette, April 11, 1990.
