The statue was commissioned by the Oklahoma Bar Foundation as a memorial to the late Neil E. Bogan, of Tulsa, who died May 5, 1990, during his term as president of the Oklahoma Bar Association. The project was funded by the Oklahoma Bar Foundation and through private donations.
