    Description: 
    An eagle, perched atop a memorial shaft for West Point Cadet John S. Farwell. The standing eagle, with its wings spread back, holds a flag in its beak. The flag drapes over the top part of the shaft. On the base, above the inscription is a pair of crossed swords, also draped in memory of a deceased comrade.

    IAS files contain a copy of Macomb Daily Journal (Macomb, IL), Mar. 9, 1976, pg. 1 describing how the artist used a live eagle to model the piece. Two eagles were made for monuments; the whereabouts of the other are unknown.
