Formerly in the collection of Geis, John,
Remarks:
The sculpture, made in Germany, was previously owned by John Geis. It was first installed at the southwest entrance of Oakdale Park. In the 1940s, the sculpture was slated to be used as scrap metal for war effort. The single top figure was removed and the rest of the fountain remained in the park where it was subject to much vandalism. In 1968, a new top figure was added, and Robert Levin restored and repainted the whole work. Lead and zinc were used to replace heads, hands, feet and arms on the stem figures. The fountain was moved at this time to the northwest entrance of the park. It was restored again in 1971. IAS files contain related articles from the Salina Journal, Oct. 10, 1942, which includes a photograph with the original statue, June 16, 1968 and July 13, 1968 and a Salina Heritage Commission, Historic Resources Inventory, Oct. 5, 1985.
