A Civil War soldier stands at rest, holding his rifle with both hands at chest level. The butt of his rifle rests by his proper right foot. The soldier has a moustache and wears a flat, round cap and a belted coat, buttoned at the neck. The coat's short cape drapes the proper left arm, and is thrown back on the soldier's proper right side. A bayonet and a small pouch hang from his belt on his proper left. A cartridge pouch hangs from his belt on his back proper right. The soldier is mounted upon a tall, inscribed, multitiered base with reliefs around the top. On the front is a five-pointed star above two crossed cannons and on the back are crossed flags. On one side are crossed sabers and on the other side is an upright anchor. At the top of the base is a continuous band of five-pointed stars. The lower part of the base has a continuous band of circles, eight on each face.

Remarks:
Title supplied by Inventory cataloger.
Monument commemorates Civil War soldiers. The brim and eye of the figure were damaged in the 1960s by gunshots. The ear had been knocked off earlier and is thought to perhaps be in the possession of a local Quenemo man. For related information see George Martin's "Memorial Monuments and Tablets of Kansas," pg. 267, in Kansas Historical Collections 11, 1910.
