    Remarks:
The cannon was previously located at Fort Popham, but was given to the City of Bath by the United States War Department in 1902. The monument was erected by the G.A.R. Sedgwick Post at a cost of $1,200. IAS files contain a related paper by Allison Hepler, "Bath, Maine Remembers Her Civil War Dead," Nov. 22, 1990. The sculpture is often thought to be copy after Martin Milmore based on an article titled "Soldier Boy Statues" published in Landmarks Observer (May-June 1981), which vaguely notes that Maine's soldier statues are copies of Milmore's soldier figure done in 1867.
