Remarks:
The sculpture was sited by Sculpture Placement, Washington, D.C. and was a gift from family and friends of Professor Johnson. IAS files contain transcription of text on nearby plaque, which honors several University teachers. IAS files contain the dedication speech of former Chancellor John T. Caldwell; newsclippings from the Technician (Raleigh, NC) April 14, 1986, pg. 2; and the Raleigh Times, May 6, 1986, pg. 2-B. The sculpture was made from life, the professor visited Johnson's studio several times. In Dec. 1988, the statue was vandalized with an unknown substance, possibly paint, and subsequent treatment caused the coating to change. IAS files contain treatment reports.
