Subject:  Abstract Object Type:  Outdoor Sculpture -- California -- Los Angeles Sculpture Owner:  Administered by East, West Development Corporation, 250 East First, Suite 612, Los Angeles, California 90012 Located New Otani Hotel, 120 South Los Angeles Street, Los Angeles, California Remarks:  This work was the earliest public art project in Little Tokyo and was developed as part of the One Percent for the Arts, Community Redevelopment Agency, Art in Public Places program. Iwashiro's sculpture was originally installed in 1977 in the hotel patio facing Second and San Pedro and consisted of 18 pieces. When the hotel was refurbished in 1989, the artist gave permission to relocate the sculpture in its entirety to the Hotel's courtyard at the new main entrance at First and San Pedro. Only a portion, however, of the original eighteen stones were moved to the new site; the remainder given to the Los Angeles Zoo. In its original location, the sculpture was often used by hotel guests as benches to sit on or as platforms for luggage.
