Soldiers' Monument, (sculpture). Artist:  Temple Brothers, contractor. Title:  Soldiers' Monument, (sculpture). Dates:  Installed 1892. Dedicated July 4 1893. Medium:  Sculpture: Barre granite and bronze; Base: granite. Dimensions:  Sculpture: approx. 7 ft. 3 in. x 1 1/2 ft. x 1 1/2 ft.; Base: approx. 16 x 7 x 7 ft. Inscription:  (On front bronze plaque, raised:) ERECTED/1892/TO THE MEMORY OF/NEW HARTFORD/SOLDIERS AND SAILORS/WHO SERVED IN THE WAR/OF THE REBELLION/1861. 1865. (The names and units of 224 servicemen are listed on three other bronze plaques) unsigned Description:  Figure of a Civil War soldier standing at rest atop a tall pedestal. He wears full uniform and holds the barrel of a rifle in his hands; the butt of the gun rests on the ground near his feet. Below the figure are four motifs, raised and polished, one on each face of the pedestal: the G.A.R. emblem; the crossed swords of the Artillery; the crossed sabers of the Cavalry; an anchor for the Navy. Below the motifs are bronze plaques with texts, one on each face of the pedestal. The pedestal sits on a granite base.
