Remarks:
Erected by the Ladies Monument Association and the Monumental Dramatic Association. The total cost was $1,550. The cornerstone was laid and dedicated in 1872 and the monument was completed and rededicated in 1879. It stood at Main & Church Streets, reportedly on two granite blocks, from 1879 to 1884. It was moved to Nelson Park in 1884 after Henry Clay Nelson arranged to have the park land deeded to the Town from the State of New York. It remained in Nelson Park until 1887, the year a monument depicting a Union soldier (IAS NY001820) was erected at Merchants Square. From 1887 to 1939, the monument stood at the Sitting Park at Park School. It was finally moved back to Nelson Park in 1939, upon the construction of a new school. IAS files contain material from the Ossining Public Library and the Ossining Historical Society, including the names listed on the plaques.
