N. O. Nelson Memorial Fountain, (sculpture). Artist:  Holm, Victor Sophus Joachim, 1876-1935, sculptor. Title:  N. O. Nelson Memorial Fountain, (sculpture). Dates:  Dedicated May 24, 1924. Medium:  Bronze on a granite base. Dimensions:  Sculpture: approx. 4 1/2 x 3 x 3 ft.; Base: approx. 7 1/2 x 10 x 12 ft.; Pedestal: approx. H. 3 ft. Inscription:  (Proper left side:) Victor S. Holm . Sc./MCMXXIII signed Description:  A fountain with a figure of a nude boy riding a turkey, set at the back of the basin. The boy holds up a vessel with both hands on his proper right side. On the opposite side is a bronze relief plaque depicting Nels O. Nelson and inscribed with text; and at foot of base two frogs and another plaque inset onto a rectangular base. Nelson School, 1225 West High Street, Edwardsville, Illinois 62025 Provenance:  Formerly located Leclaire School, 722 Holyoke, Edwardsville, Illinois 62025 Remarks:  IAS files contain a brochure published by the Edwardsville Historic Preservation Commission which indicates that in 1930, LeClaire's existence as an independent village ended with its annexation into the City of Edwardsville and the neighborhood in the city has since been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
