On loan to Museum of Historic Natchitoches, 840 Washington Street, Natchitoches, Louisiana 71457
Lent by DeBlieux, Robert,
Provenance:
Formerly located St. Mary's Academy, Touline Street & 3rd Street, Natchitoches, Louisiana
Remarks:
The relief symbolizes the Arts. It originally resided as an eave ornament on the left side of St. Mary's Academy building. A missing twin sculpture that resided on the right eave represented the "Sciences." The building was used by a number of religious orders as a place of education from the years 1846 through the end of the century. IAS files contain a related excerpt from Carol Wells' "Cane River Country, Louisiana," Natchitoches, LA: Northwestern State University Press, 1979, pg. 73.
