Lent by Tillou, Peter, Litchfield, Connecticut
    Provenance:
Formerly located Colt Armory, 55 Van Dyke Avenue, Hartford, Connecticut 1886-1990.
    Remarks:
From 1886 to 1990 the gilded horse stood on the onion dome of the Colt Armory in Hartford where the legendary Colt firearms were manufactured. The horse was incorporated into the Colt family crest and become a well known industrial trademark in the 19th century. It has since been adapted by the City of Hartford as their symbol. In 1990, the deteriorated horse was removed from the dome and sold to collector Peter Tillou for $500,000. IAS files contain related articles from the Hartford Courant (CT), Jan. 17, 1994, pg.
