(On plaques, left and right sides of base:) MEN OF FITCHBURG/WHO SERVED THEIR COUNTRY DURING/THE SPANISH AMERICAN WAR 1898-1902 (list of names from sixth Mass. Infantry Company D on left plaque and Company B on the right plaque) unsigned Founder's mark appears.

    The monument, which cost $5,350, honors the men of Fitchburg who served in the Spanish American War, the Philippine Insurrection, and the China Relief Expedition.
