GRISWALD AND CO., INC./ VERMONT COUNCIL ON THE ARTS/1987/PLAQUE PRODUCED BY/METRO BRONZE BARRE, VT. IAS files contain articles from Times Argus (Barre, VT), June 18, 1987, and the Burlington Free Press (Burlington, VT), June 19, 1987, discussing the project and the students who created it. IAS files also contain an invitation to the dedication ceremony and a fact sheet about the piece listing the names of students who worked on the piece and the some of the companies that funded the project.
The piece was created by Kate Pond (a graduate of Montpelier High School), with assistance from Barbara-Austin Hutchins and ten students. The sculpture was funded in part through the Vermont Council on the Arts' Artists in Residency Program, which contributed $800. Austin-Hutchins conceived the idea of the collaborative work in the fall of 1986 and students sponsored fund-raising drives. The work functions as a bench.
