The sculptures were funded in part by U.S. Housing and Urban Development Block Grant. The sculpture was the outcome of an arts and crafts program instituted in 1979 and taught by the artist. Nameplate to the left of main entrance to building reads: "Cambridge Arts/Council/1979/Clay pieces made by/Residents.../of Miller River/and children from/Kennedy Harrington Agassiz and Webster Schools." (List of resident names). IAS files contain list of residents' names who helped fabricate the sculptures and related materials from the Cambridge Arts Council's files (accession #:79:05; CAC80.04).
