    Description: 
    A white painted monolith made of individual 8 x 16 inch concrete blocks arranged in a woven pattern. The front face of the monolith is a long, gentle, concave curve adorned with a profile portrait of William Stinchcomb in a granite medallion. The inscription plaque is immediately below the portrait. On each side of the monolith is a circular white metal plate which originally was the location of a speaker, but park personnel had to install steel plates over them to prevent vandalism. On the back of the monolith there are two square grates. The sculpture is installed in a semicircular stone plaza.

    Remarks: 
    William A. Stinchcomb developed the Cleveland Metropolitan Park System. The sculpture stands above the first site Stinchcomb purchased for what has become the Metroparks system. IAS files contain related articles from the Plain Dealer (Cleveland, OH), Oct. 18, 1959, pg. 7.
