Henry Church Rock, (sculpture). Artist:  Church, Henry, 1836-1908, sculptor. Title:  Henry Church Rock, (sculpture). Dates:  1885. Medium:  Sculpture: sandstone secured in place with bricks. Dimensions:  Sculpture: approx. H. 12 ft. x W. 19 ft. Inscription:  (Sculpture, lower right corner near base:) H. Church / 1885 signed Description:  Carved into the side of a rock is a relief that is said to represent the "western movement." The relief depicts a reclining female figure holding a veil in her hands as if she is floating. Below her is a snake-like creature representing pre-historic life. To her proper right is a quiver with arrows. Below her to her proper left is a skull and a skeleton. An eagle with something in its mouth, a flag, a shield, a baby in a cradle, and a cat-like animal are also carved into the rock.
