    Description: 
    A memorial structure crowned with a pediment that was once topped by a Celtic Cross. The front side has two benches facing each other. Originally there was a fountain basin in the center between the benches. On the back of the memorial is a semi-circular water basin.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was erected by the Womans Christian Temperance Union of Newton in memory of their first president, Mrs. William McMurtry (Catherine Ryerson), 1883-1904, and was originally located at the intersection of Liberty and Main Streets. IAS files contain photocopies of historic photographs of the fountain in its original location, with the Celtic Cross on top.
