    Description: 
    A standing portrait of President McKinley wearing a knee-length, jacket, a vest, and a bow tie. He holds his proper right hand slightly raised in a gesture of declamation. In his proper left hand he holds a scroll. The sculpture rests atop a tiered base with a cornice-like cap piece.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was donated to the City of Niles by Miss Doris Duke, heiress and daughter of the late James E. Duke, a pioneer in the tobacco industry and friend of President McKinley. Mr. Duke had the sculpture cast in Florence, Italy in 1904. It stood on the Duke Estate at Hillsborough, New Jersey until Miss Duke donated the sculpture to the City of Niles. Duke paid for the expense of its dismantling, shipping and reassembly. The City of Niles paid for its installation at McKinley High School. The sculpture arrived by railway in October of 1960. It rested in the railroad yard for two years until being installed at the High School on October 4, 1962.
