    The Tarry family portrait depicts George Tarry (1801-1884) and his wife Mary Euphemia Hamilton Tarry (1815-1887) seated with their daughter Mary Euphemia Tarry at about age five and their son George Patrick Tarry (1841-1903) at about age three standing between them. In the background there is red drapery.

    George Tarry was a wealthy planter in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina in 1824. His plantation was originally named Pleasant Hill, later the name was changed to Long Grass.
