    Owner:
Manitou Sinclair Service Station, 201 Manitou Avenue, Manitou Springs, Colorado 80829
    Provenance:
    Formerly located Denver, Colorado
    Remarks:
The old dinosaur and its companion were two of the original 200 such dinosaurs used by Sinclair as a trademark for their company. The old dinosaur and its companion were originally located at a Sinclair station in Denver in the 1960s. They were then stored in another service station for several years prior to their "rescue" and relocation to Manitou Springs around 1986.
The dinosaurs proved so popular in their new spot in Manitou Springs, that the company decided to recast the sculptures. One of the two original dinosaurs was taken to the company headquarters in Salt Lake City and cut apart so that a new mold could be made. A replacement dinosaur was fabricated and returned to Manitou Springs. IAS files contain related newsclipping from Pikes Peak Journal, July 8, 1988. The dinosaurs are subject to pranks and frequent painting by local school children. They have been moved over the years and are now secured with rebar and concrete.
